The person who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the person doing it, says the old Chinese adage, but it seems with the way things are, the reverse is the case.
Imagine working all your life for something, putting in the work and time required, and at the end of the day having someone or people at the back of their screens with access to the internet rubbishing your work, how would you feel about it? Well, this is the case here with Burna Boy in question.
It is no doubt that many artists today find themselves in similar positions not just Burna Boy, but come to think of it, if you were in the position of these artists how would you feel?
There have been a couple of cases in the past and even present where most artists have to take matters into their own hands and take care of these so-called “internet gangsters.” I mean you can’t come up with your own thing and when someone does, you criticize them without even putting into consideration what it would do to their mental health and so on?
Well, Burna Boy’s recent show was heavily criticized by many internet gangsters as it seemed they were somewhat paid to target the award-winning singer and performer. Many claimed that the Port-Harcourt-born artiste didn’t sell out his show as claimed and therefore called him out. Many even went as far as posting pictures and video evidence online and on social media platforms such as X formerly known as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
The artists however have something for them (internet gangsters) as he previewed a song off his coming album specifically for those criticizing his work and dubbing his show with “empty seats.” while he previewed the song, others still even criticized him claiming the song and sound sounded similar to his previous works.
It now seems that there is no peace for Burna Boy, as no matter what he does or puts out will always be scrutinized. And no matter how he replies to these trolls he will always be at the center of things. Just as the famous football quote says, the person with the ball should always expect to be tackled, Burna should take a lot of positives from this, as it simply means he’s doing something right to be getting all of the attention. A person with nothing to offer draws no attention!
