88 athletes proudly represented Nigeria at the Olympics, showcasing their incredible talent and determination. Despite their best efforts, they unfortunately did not bring home any medals. Not a solitary one.
Lists of Nigerians that made Nigerians proud by winning medals for other nations during the Paris 2024 Olympics. Nigeria never fails to showcase at every Olympics how obstacles can be conquered, proving that dreams are within reach. Nigeria has a knack for luring you in with promises of hope, only to dash your spirits at the eleventh hour. Oh, the consistent display of carelessness, anyhowness, and lack of preparation. It never fails to amaze me.
Interestingly, athletes from Nigeria managed to secure multiple medals for different countries. During the Paris 2024 Olympics, a number of athletes with Nigerian heritage made noteworthy contributions while competing for different countries. It’s interesting to note that these athletes, who have ties to Nigeria, have decided to represent other countries like Germany, Bahrain, the United States, France, Great Britain, and Spain. Their performances not only brought them personal recognition, but also showcased the wide range and international appeal of Nigerian talent.
What’s the reason behind this?
88 athletes, 12 sports, and 0 medals.
Wow, we had quite a number of athletes competing in various sports, but unfortunately, we didn’t bring home any medals this time. To be honest, this account doesn’t provide a comprehensive depiction of Nigeria’s disappointing performance at the Olympics. Our athletes, unfortunately, did not receive the support they needed from the Nigerian Olympic committee and the Ministry of Sports, despite the significant investment of 12 billion naira in Nigeria’s participation.
Curious about how this all came about? Well, the answer is pretty clear. It’s quite amusing how the government tried to shift the blame for the last-minute rush to qualify athletes and the lack of basic amenities. They even went as far as launching an investigation into the ‘puzzling’ outcome.
This Olympics has just been one with Nigerians winning, not for Nigeria, and Nigerians losing because of Nigeria. I love how vocal all of the athletes have been about what a disgrace Nigeria is. Anyhos, here are the problems.
- It’s quite disappointing that despite Favour Ofili’s qualification, the Athletic Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee neglected to register her for the 100m race. The Athletic Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee have not yet provided an explanation for this oversight.
- There were some problems that affected the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, one of them being the failure of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria to follow the testing rules. Unfortunately, this led to Annette Echikunwoke being unable to compete. Later on, she had the opportunity to represent the USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she achieved an impressive feat by winning a silver medal in the women’s hammer throw event. She was the life of the party, outshining even the Village People.
- Ese Ukpeseraye, a Nigerian cyclist, found herself in need of a bike for the keirin and individual sprint events. Luckily, she was able to borrow one from the German team. Even with a two-week heads-up. The Nigerian Cycling Federation did a terrible job of not providing her with the necessary equipment.
