Most Nigerians enjoy the unusual brand of instant noodles, Indomie. Its delicious taste and simplicity have helped it to become a household brand in Nigeria. Over all age groups, the brand has won over the hearts and palates of young and old. Having spent last 31 years in Nigeria, Indomie has had an amazing influence on the gastronomic scene of the nation.
Although commonly associated with Jollof rice,Egusi and Fufu, Indomie noodles are the national dish of Nigeria. It can be found in nearly every home, supermarket, and corner business on the street. Indomie is famous enough in Nigeria to need its own passport. Ironically, Nigeria was not the originator of Indomie. But then, what is it?
Indomie began with simply the original flavor and experimented with adding other twists to it over the years. Some we liked, some we despised, and some died in swift, painless fashion. We rank each Indomie flavor here.
Indomie Instant Noodles
– RELISH CHICKEN DELIGHT and RELISH SEAFOOD DELIGHT
The Relish Seafood Delight comes with protein filled Real Fish Chunks and Fish Powder, savory Seasoning Powder, Seasoning Oil and authentic Nigerian pepper while the Chicken delight comes with protein filled real chicken chunks and vegetables, savory seasoning powder, seasoning oil and extra green peas.
I’ve tried both but cannot remember which I found “totally disgusting” and which was a step above “totally disgusting”. Out of 10 i will give it a 1!
Indomie Instant Noodles
– JOLLOF CHICKEN FLAVOR
Indomie reasoned they could use a jollof-flavored Indomie to profit off Nigerians’ love of jollof rice. I recall some years back they had these “Indomie jollof noodles”, which didn’t go well, and then this. They resolved to return bearing this “jollof chicken flavor,” which still doesn’t taste great! I will give this a 2 for trying to compare this with our “almighty” Nigerian jollof
Indomie Instant Noodles
– BEEF FLAVOR
Why would they even bother? Beef flavor? There’s absolutely nothing beefy here. When you hear “beef,” you would think it comes with beef or a beefy sauce attached, but were is the lie?
Its taste wasn’t appealing at all. They should just stick to the original and onion flavor. I will be very fair enough to give this a solid 2 and half .
Indomie Instant Noodles
– CRAYFISH FLAVOR
I am a crayfish girlie but this doesn’t taste like crayfish was added. It tasted so bland and made me cringe! I will give this a solid 3 without feeling bad
Indomie Oriental Fried Noodles flavor
– ORIENTAL FRIED NOODLES
Don’t let the image on the noodles package deceive you. Oriental Fried Noodles were invented just so you could fool yourself into thinking you were somehow being healthy by eating Indomie, which has minimal nutritional value every single day.
They encouraged us to believe it included dried veggies, supposedly the only elements needed for it to be regarded as oriental. Nobody is completely sure what’s inside this Indomie. But as I know it, it is most certainly not veggies as they are. If you closed your eyes and really imagined it with all of your heart, certain orange flecks may pass for carrots. That is the only thing, though. I will give this a 4 out of 10! That’s fair right?
Indomie Chicken Pepper Soup Flavor
– CHICKEN PEPPER SOUP
A delightful surprise for all the pepper fanatics out there! … Get ready to tango with your taste buds! Indomie Pepper Chicken is here to turn up the heat with its sizzling chicken flavour, a dash of spice, and a fiery kick of red hot pepper that will have you coming back for seconds, thirds, and maybe even fourths! Who knew a noodle could be such a thrill-seeker?
The concept of Chicken Pepper Soup is all about slurping up those noodles while giving them a little dip in the “soup” pool—just enough to keep things interesting! Nigerians, naturally, whipped it up dry and were absolutely not having any of that nonsense!
This taste had me scratching my head, as my distinctly Nigerian palate has some very specific ideas about what pepper soup should be like! Pepper soup and noodles? My nose stays dry and my eyes remain as clear as a sunny day! Who knew a bowl of soup could be so well-behaved? This chicken-pepper soup flavour could have really kicked it up a notch with some Cameroon pepper—because who doesn’t want their taste buds to do the cha-cha? Indomie and Cameroon peppers are like a comedy duo—one’s the punchline, and the other’s the unexpected twist! Since I’m all about that noodle life in a pepper soup bowl, I’m throwing this a solid 6! Who knew soup could be so saucy?
Treat for all the pepper enthusiasts! … With the hottest and spiciest offering from the house of Indomie Pepper Chicken, which combines mouth-watering chicken flavor, spice, and red hot pepper that keeps you going back for more every time, challenge your taste receptors!
The idea behind the Chicken Pepper Soup taste is eating the noodle with a tiny bit of “soup” combined in. Nigerians, of course, prepared it dry and were not having none of that.
This taste bothered me since my clearly Nigerian view of what pepper soup ought to taste. Pepper soup doesn’t cause my nose to run or my eyes to moisten when paired with noodles. This chicken-pepper soup flavor would have been better with the Cameroon pepper. Indomie and Cameroon peppers hit differently. Because I love the idea of noodles in a bowl of pepper soup, I will give this a solid 6
Indomie Instant Noodles
– CHICKEN FLAVOUR
For a lot of folks, spotting the original chicken flavour sitting pretty at number two on this list is like finding a unicorn in a chicken coop! Well, here I am, firmly planted like a stubborn tree in a windstorm! Go ahead, unleash your inner critic on me!
The original chicken Indomie flavour is like the classic rock of instant noodles—always a hit and never goes out of style! Some of our most unforgettable moments with Indomie were all about that delicious flavour explosion! You know that catchy Indomie ad song? It goes a little something like this!
“To you, to me
It is up to us to make the world a better place….”
This chicken flavour is like a party crasher, mingling with all sorts of flavours! I’ll grab these if the other flavours decide to play hide and seek! This is my runner-up in the Indomie Noodle Olympics!
Indomie Instant Noodles
– ONION CHICKEN FLAVOR
The Indomie Onion Chicken flavour, which danced onto the scene several years after the original, has claimed the crown as my all-time favourite Indomie noodle! Who knew noodles could be so dramatic?
It’s like the sun decided to throw a party in your mouth, but thankfully, it’s not inviting any wild spices like Jollof to crash the bash! This flavour of Indomie is so remarkable, that it might just win a Nobel Prize in noodle innovation!
As a self-proclaimed foodie, I feel it’s my duty to call out those brave souls who dare to waste seasoning oil. Seriously, what are you thinking? That’s like throwing away a golden ticket to flavour town! Some folks seem to have a talent for using their hands to give pleasure the cold shoulder! The seasoning oil is like the fairy godmother of flavour, turning your onion-chicken dish from a pumpkin into a royal carriage of deliciousness! So, it turns out there’s a perfectly good explanation for why you’ve been tossing it in the trash and giving it the side-eye all this time! This is the crème de la crème of my favourites! It’s so good on its own that I keep a carton handy at all times!
