How Kagan Tech Metamorphosed from a Beat Producer to a Moneymaker Content Creator

Oyiri Nna Yaa - September 9, 2024

Kagan, whose real name is Oladapo-Ogunsanya Segun, is a talented creative pro making waves in Nigeria as a top tech content creator. He’s got an impressive following of over 900,000 fans across different social media platforms.

He’s one of the most influential tech content creators in Nigeria right now. He’s a creative professional with a vision, bringing over 12 years of experience across different areas of the tech industry. He makes short, easy-to-watch videos online, sharing his love for using technology to enhance everyday life experiences with everyone.

Before he became a content creator, he started out as a rapper and then switched to production when he learnt that producers were the ones making money. He even had a studio.

He decided to take a break when his family started to think he was up to something shady since he was glued to the computer all day. They’re hoping he’ll find a job. In the end, he gave in, but he didn’t stick around for more than six months at this spot. He started out at a creative agency. He was juggling quite a few things: graphic design, SEO, and building websites. They were raking in millions while only giving him ₦81,000.

He found out that the same jobs he was doing for ₦50k and ₦30k, people were actually ready to pay millions for. It wasn’t about how skilled he was; it was more about how he presented himself. He really learnt a lot during his six months working in Lagos, and that was the biggest takeaway for him.

He needed to establish his own brand in a way that would enable him to charge high fees. It was then that he started making real money. He charged ₦650k for building a website before; he would have charged ₦35k since it was a WordPress website. He later discovered Upwork and made about $450 for one of his first videos. On the side, he was also doing audio engineering and website work. It was from that video that he learnt about affiliate business because that was how the video was going to make money.

He concluded that the person who hired him was making so much more than he was paying him. Since he was the one making the video, he decided to build a website and do some SEO stuff that would make his site rank high and go after the affiliate marketing income. Well, he did it, and it worked! There was a time he made $19,000 from Amazon in a month.

Fast forward to recent time, In just a year, Kagantech went through an amazing change, jumping from making a modest $500 a month to an impressive $20,000 in social media revenue.

After six years on YouTube without much recognition, Kagantech finally hit the jackpot in 2022 when he got picked as one of the YouTubers for the esteemed YouTube Black Voices Fund class of 2023. He got recognised just as a bunch of viral videos started taking off, grabbing the attention of people on different social media platforms. This really shot him from being unknown to becoming a key player in the tech content creation scene.

Femi Olaniyan, a finance content creator, recently sat down with Kagantech to chat about the key decision that led to his impressive growth. Interestingly, he shared that stepping away from YouTube and concentrating on platforms like Instagram and TikTok really contributed to his success.

Kagantech really focusses on creating a community and connecting authentically with his audience. He thinks that just having followers isn’t enough; building a lasting friendship and trust with the audience is really important.
